gsalogoMGI Systems, Inc. was founded in 1995 as a consulting and educational company focused on Emergency Power Supply Systems (EPSS) for health care facilities. Since that time MGI has expanded its course offerings to cover the entire electrical distribution systems within health care facilities. Recently MGI has also added additional disciplines to its course offerings with the Health Care HVAC Technician and Health Care Medical Gas Technician.

Dan Chisholm – President of MGI Consulting, Inc. Dan provides risk assessments, commissioning and evaluation services on emergency power systems for over 1200 healthcare facilities. He is a member of the NFPA’s Technical Committees responsible for NFPA 110, Emergency and Standby Power Systems and the Electrical Section of NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities. Dan also serves as a primary emergency power consultant to the U.S. Army Medical Department (AMEDD) and the Department of Defense. His web-based training courses on healthcare electrical systems are being used by the majority of the nation’s hospitals.

Ernest E. Allen, ARM, CSP - Mr. Allen is a resident of Ohio and employed as Account Executive in the Patient Safety Department of OHIC Insurance Company, which is owned by The Doctors Company of Napa, California.  He is a regular speaker on Life Safety at EC Summit Seminars. His photographs are frequently published in Environment of Care Leader.  He also performs Pre-Joint Commission surveys reviewing Environment of Care, Emergency Management and Life Safety for VHA (Voluntary Hospital Association) member hospitals throughout the country and is a Life Safety consultant for The Cleveland Clinic, VCU Medical Center, and Trinity Health System.  Mr. Allen is a Certified Safety Professional and has his Associate in Risk Management from the Insurance Institute of America.

Jeff Cook, CHCM – Director of Engineering, Reid Hospital and Healthcare Services. Jeff is a Certified Healthcare Construction Manager and Master Electrician with over 30 years experience. He has been an electrical instructor since 1995. Jeff currently provides Arc Flash and other electrical training at an Indianapolis Technical College. He also provides training to other hospitals including the VA Health System. He is currently a member of ASHE and a voting member of NFPA 70, National Electrical Code®.

John M. Kramer PE - John is a licensed professional mechanical engineer with 25 years of experience in all facets of HVAC- design, installation, and maintenance. After 9 years in the control industry as a controls design engineer for two of the largest control companies in the US, John entered the HVAC consulting engineering business. During the 7 year period that he owned Efland Consulting Engineers, Inc, he was involved in the design, installation and troubleshooting of HVAC systems in many hospitals in North Carolina. John has spent the last 11 years as the Staff Engineer at Duke University Medical Center, a 7 million SF research and healthcare facility. In his latest role, he has been involved in maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and replacement projects that span the entire spectrum of mechanical systems.


Jonathan Willard is the president and owner of Certified Medical Gas Services, LLC (CMGS), which was founded with the vision to be a single-source, turnkey provider of comprehensive medical gas services. Mr. Willard has worked in the construction industry for over 16 years and was first introduced to medical gas systems 12 years ago. He has had extensive experience and involvement in some of the most significant and complex healthcare projects in the Northeast. Prior to starting CMGS, he was the Vice President of Operations for a large mechanical contractor in New Hampshire and also worked there as a Project Manager. In addition Mr. Willard is a principal member of the NFPA 99 (Health Care Facilities) Technical Committee on Piping Systems, which is responsible for the portion of the code relating to the performance, maintenance, installation, and testing of medical gas and vacuum piping systems. He is also a LEED AP (Accredited Professional) and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) with a Master of Science degree in Business Education (MBE).

Donald C. Rust, CHE, CHFM - Retired Assistant Director Duke University Medical Center. Don began his career in the health care arena in 1966 spanning 44 years with Duke. Since the beginning his career has included electrical maintenance – apprentice to senior certified electrician, foreman of electrical services as well as maintenance manager and assistant director of the Engineering and Operations department. He has qualified with a journeymen’s electrical license, intermediate and unlimited electrical contractor’s certificate, as well as being certified by the North Carolina Health Care Engineers Association as a Health Care Engineer (CHE) and ASHE’s Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM). He has been active in both the NCHEA and ASHE organizations and has served as a trainer with both. At NCHEA he’s served as program chairman, District 3 chairman, vice chairman and district representative. He has served on the editorial advisory board for Maintenance Solutions magazine and presently participates in their Round table discussion series. He also has worked with MGI Systems as an instructor as well as developing continuing on line educational courses. His responsibilities at Duke included facility maintenance management for over 6.5 million square feet (70 + buildings) and support for functions within those buildings. The functions include health care, research, teaching, animal care, clinics, fitness and general business operations. He was responsible for approximately 40+ emergency generator systems, HVAC, mechanical, electrical systems, general building envelopes throughout these facilities, including Bio-Containment facilities. The operational budgets for these building are in the range of $72M.
